i was just catching up with my college roomie lani and reminiscing about our interesting medical ways during college.
lani had this esophogus issue where the tube bent in a weird way. so when she swallowed a piece of food, she sometimes had to bend over and let her head hang upside down in order to proceed with her digestion. to make sure she didn't look odd in the process, we (christina and i) used to "accidentally" drop things on the floor during meals so that she can pick it up and digest at the same time. we were good roomies.
as for me, i was in this new topical drug clinical study to examine some skin flare-ups that i had. in order to track my progress, they asked that i fill out a nutritional chart -- i had to write down everything that i consumed in this calendar. the biggest problem was that each date had only a small writable real estate, and on the first day, i filled up the entire box by 10 am! i felt like a pig and stopped writing.
then, it came for my monthly checkup. i realized that i had a month full of non-data, so i did what any clinical trial patient would do -- i made it up. the girls helped me sanity check by crossing off data such as having a burrito four days in a row. we were good roomies. (oddly enough, the doctor did not find any correlation with my food intake and flare-ups. ha.)
so what are the roomies doing now?
christina is a registered nurse and lani is getting her phd to better understand the effectiveness of certain medical treatments.
