so bschool is all about getting a job. it's like a trade school for middle management so understandably, "employment statistics" are quite important to the school. it's been 2.5 months since graduation, and so for those of us who are career deliquents, we get friendly reminders and "check in" emails from the career center peeps.
for some reason, today's reminder bothered me a little more than usual. it told me that sept. 15th (the 3 month mark from graduation) is a critical statistics for the school; prospective students look at this stat along with recruiters and the people who rank the bschools. i scanned the current employment list, and it seemed like everyone had landed a gig...so, needless to say, i felt like a bad alum. for a second.
accompanying the career center email in my inbox was an email from tom addressed to a small group of our classmates. the subject? "unemployed and proud: let's get drinks," which suggested we celebrate the fact we can still go to a bar in the middle of a weekday afternoon. yay.
then, like a big dork, i counted the entries in the spreadsheet: 270. our class was 330 so hey, looks like more people than just tom and i are screwing up the stat. phew.
then, another thought hit me. after sept 15th, the career center won't be sending any more guilt trip emails for their stat! ahhhh. now i can sleep in peace.
